Actual Shakespeare scholar weighing in

I literally have a BFA in Shakespeare and this is both charming and hilarious. Shakespeare is not some
haughty literature meant to be accessible only to the highest levels of the 1%. It's dick jokes and bad puns
and even the most solemn tragedies still have oafs and relief. Some other reviewer called this the nadir of
writing well I say it's a zenith upholding Shakespeare's bawdy traditions with pride. Cheers to you, Brett
Wright! You're using your Shakespeare degree a hell of a lot better than I am!

Silly, Ridiculous, but UNIQUE

For everyone complaining about how it's dumbing down the true artistry Shakespeare provided in Romeo
and Juliet, you don't have any idea how much of a troublemaker he truly was or even how silly he takes
things. I mean come on, have you not read Midsummer Night's Dream?
As an avid reader of Shakespeare's plays, I honestly thought the idea of this was clever. Most times you'll go
out to seek renditions that are easier to read for his plays, most people jump onto the No Fear Shakespeare
(hell I think I have a N.F.S. copy of Antony and Cleopatra). But what this did was take his plays and
"modernize" it to some extent. The writer put his own twist on the play and I think that's what makes it very
unique. It's the same storyline of course but simply put into "modern" texting terms. When you finally get
over the fact it's written via Smartphone texts, it's actually quite humorous and goofy. Probably one of my
favorite sections is as follows:
Mercutio: Out with it then! So how was her pink flower?
Benvolio: Ugh. Mercutio.
Romeo: Let's just say it's been pollinated.
Benvolio: Ugh. ROMEO!

Intro to Shakespeare for 10 year old girl

My daughter, who is not a voracious reader, was up all night reading this. I saw this on a table at a bookstore,
picked it up, browsed through it and was chuckling, when my daughter declared she really wanted to read
this. She was up all night reading it. I quizzed her on some of the characters names and plot lines, and she
knew it cold.
She couldn't wait to read another one, so we went back the next day and got Srsly Hamlet. She was up all
night reading that too, she couldn't put it down. So I've pre-ordered the rest of them.
People need to lighten up. I think this was a great idea to get younger kids interested in Shakespeare, and for
the rest of us who have read some of his plays, it's just plain fun. When my daughter does read the original
text, it won't be as daunting and will probably help her enjoyment of it
